Local artists Carolyn Johns and Patrick Conolly brighten Community House walls

Bright and tropical artwork by local SCAL artists Carolyn Johns and Patrick Conolly will hang on The Community House walls through the month of August. The piece featured at the top of this article is “KEEPING A LOOKOUT,” Carolyn Johns, acrylic, $200.

Carolyn Johns is a retired Ohio art teacher who has instructed public school and university-level art classes. She has held many workshops and won awards for her paintings in different medias. She now is painting in acrylics, preferring subjects in nature and as an avid bird watcher, often uses them as subjects in her paintings. Her present style is a bit abstract and impressionistic with lots of color and happy attitude.

After many years residing on Sanibel, she is now living at Shell Point Retirement Community where she continues her love of painting. She is a member of The Sanibel/Captiva Art League and The Painters Guild at Shell Point.

Patrick Conolly is proud to exhibit at The Sanibel Community House this August. All his life he has dabbled with the Arts, and now the Arts seem to be dabbling with him. While his artwork springs spontaneously from his imagination, lately he’s been playing around with surfaces, both flat and shiny, as well as line work with minimal or very bright colors. His large works can be quite simple, while the smaller works can be filled with tiny details.

This exhibit presents some of his SanCap plein air paintings. Enjoy this collection of colorful abstracts with hints of realism, incorporating a sense of place and an outdoor breath of location. That location centers around Sanibel.

The SanCap Art League of Sanibel is a wonderful artist destination for anyone wishing to explore their artistic visions with others. All are invited to join in and contribute to the art scene here on Sanibel. Artists come together to share and learn from each other, and draw upon the wonders surrounding Sanibel.

Patrick is very thankful to exhibit at The Sanibel Community House and hopes you enjoy the show.

You can view their artwork on our walls Monday — Friday from 9am-1pm, or click here to view them online.
