Cooking With The Islands’ Stars is Sanibel Community Association’s newest and biggest event; a fun-filled evening of community-cooking, eating, competition, entertainment, and music!
It is also the chief fundraising event for SCA’s Renovation Campaign and the newly christened Culinary Education Center of Sanibel. For those that may not know, The Sanibel Community Association is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit, benefiting the communities of Sanibel and Captiva Island, FL. And now, with our Chef lineup for Cooking With The Islands’ Stars officially announced, we will be doing a series (Meet The Chefs) of biographical articles to help our audience better know each cook before the event.
Here is the second: Chef Calli Johnson…
Calli brings fresh energy to the Sanibel and Captiva community by joining her family on Sanibel after graduating from the University of Florida with multiple degrees. When she is not cooking or scuba diving, she works with her parents to run Bailey’s General Store and its family of companies. As an at-home chef, Calli has cultivated her love of cooking by impressing (and sometimes disappointing) her family at mealtimes from a young age.
She often jokes that many of her roommates in school gained a few pounds from her fantastic cooking. Her love of sustainable spearfishing and food melds perfectly into an environmentally friendly perspective on cooking and dining. To honor this perspective, she will be cooking lion-fish tacos for this year’s event.
Her family has long-supported the Community House; her great-grandfather Frank Bailey was a founding member of the Community Association and worked to fund the first building. As the 4th generation of Bailey family residents and business owners on Sanibel, she is a perfect match for this year’s Cooking With the Island Stars. Her sister, Bailie, and father, Richard, will be assisting her for an evening of great food and great laughs for a great cause!
Our remaining two chef biographies will follow, check back soon!
